The Comeback of Common Sense Grass Monster, June 18, 2025 GRASSMONSTER SAYS: Article Title: “Great British Energy: The Comeback of Common Sense”By @grassmonster In a world gasping for clean air and cheap bills, Britain has finally sparked a solution that’s not imported, privatised, or utterly bonkers. Say hello to Great British Energy – the new, state-owned power player created under the Great British Energy Act 2025. It’s not some throwback to red-flag socialism. It’s not a champagne-fuelled greenwash, either. It’s a public energy company, born from rising bills, energy insecurity, and the kind of political pressure that melts even the coldest spreadsheet. This move puts the UK alongside countries like France and Norway – nations smart enough to own a slice of their own power grid. Until now, Britain has relied on a patchwork of foreign-owned suppliers, where profit often came before people and wind turbines served shareholders in Madrid before Yorkshire homes. That changes now. Great British Energy will invest in clean, homegrown power – wind, solar, nuclear – with an eye on cutting bills and cutting carbon. It won’t sell to the highest bidder. It won’t vanish during a market crisis. It’s ours. Run for the public, by the public, and aimed directly at our national interest. Critics whine about interference. But even they can’t explain why a French company can run half our nuclear stations while our own government’s hands are tied behind its back. Yes, it’s still early. No, it won’t magically solve the cost-of-living crisis overnight. But it’s a major step in reclaiming control of a resource too vital to be left entirely to the free market roulette. When the lights go out, we shouldn’t be waiting on a call from Beijing, Berlin, or BP. We should be flipping the switch ourselves.
