Water companies are wringing their hands, not their reservoirs. Hosepipe bans are looming, and public messaging now borders on the absurd – one government leaflet literally suggested people delete old emails to save electricity powering data centres that, in turn, need cooling systems. If that sounds like satire, it’s not. Welcome to post-modern environmental policy.
